What is the best business decision you ever made? Opening my private practice (Let’s Talk/Hablamos) in 1997.

What is the best life decision you ever made? Marrying my husband and moving to Southwest Florida (Immokalee) in the summer of 1964.

Why are you and Southwest Florida a good fit? I love the daily interaction with multi-cultural, multi-lingual people. And, I love sub-tropical weather for gardening.  Immokalee means “my home” and it is, indeed, my home. I strive to bloom where I am planted.

What’s the most valuable tip you can give to a high school freshman today? Get as much education as you can because it’s the one thing NO ONE can take away from you.

What’s the most valuable tip you can give to a college freshman? Same as a high school freshman, plus: Don’t worry about declaring a major as it will soon be clear to you.

What’s the most valuable tip you can give to a college senior? Same as a high school freshman, plus: If your field does not work out, don’t worry because you can always try something else.

Other than family members, who influenced you the most in your youth? One of my first mentors was Ms. Florence Jelks, who believed in my potential even when I didn’t. She encouraged me to go to college. She was also willing and able to listen to me whenever I called or stopped by to see her at school. She was the principal.

What is your favorite leisure activity? I have two favorites: 1) Reading because it helps me relax, learn about other people and places, and I find it entertaining,  and 2) Traveling because it’s a BIG, beautiful world out there with wonderful and interesting people that I will cross paths with.
